Kristen Faucon is a sophomore agricultural communications and leadership major at Illinois State University. Time is scarce between classes, studying, and extracurricular activities. But she savors every second of her busy days—time she wouldn’t have without the support of donors who saw the impact in supporting a student like her.

Kristen fell in love with Illinois State after her first campus visit, and appreciates being able to pursue all of her passions at the University. She did that with the help of the Agriculture Faculty Scholarship in 2012, and the Harvey S. Woods Scholarship in 2013.

“You really can state your passion here at Illinois State, but you don’t have to just state one. There is so much for you to experience,” Kristen said.

Here’s Why Your Gift Matters, in her own words:

What impact has the scholarship had on your life?

Without the scholarships I received, I would not be able to attend ISU. I pay for school by myself, and the scholarships allow me to focus on my studies and extracurricular activities, and stress a little less about my finances. I have found that receiving scholarships pushes me that much harder because I want the person who donated to know that it didn’t go to waste and that I value the education they allow me to receive.

What do you hope to do after you graduate?

After I graduate I hope to do governmental affairs for an agricultural company, preferably in Central Illinois. At some point in my career I can also see myself communicating about legislation to farmers and others in the agriculture industry.

How prepared do you feel going into the working world?

I feel extremely prepared to go into the working world, and I cannot wait for it. The Department of Agriculture has done a great job utilizing their resources as well as those of the Career Center to ensure that we are ready for career fairs and interviews. Plus, the curriculum in many of my classes has been very applicable in internships, and I believe the same will be true for my first full-time job.

What would you say to those whose contributions funded your scholarship?

Thank you so much for putting your faith in me! I would not be here without your contribution, and I am grateful for your support every day. I hope that one day I will be able to do for future ISU students what you have done for me. It means so much that words cannot fully express my gratitude.
