The Metcalf Chess Team took second place overall at the 2015 Martin Luther King Day Chess Tournament held at Illinois State University. Thirty-four Metcalf students were among 322 competitors at one of the largest scholastic tournaments in the state.

In Lower Primary (K-1st grade), Metcalf had 12 students who delivered a second place finish, led by Cecilia Wille and Philip Weissinger, who each took first place in their ratings category.

In Upper Primary (2nd-3rd grades), 15 Chesscats were part of the team that took third place, led by Arun Sreekanth who took second place in his ratings category.

The Elementary (4th-5th grades) took third place, and Kale Rader and Peter Elzanati won trophies in their ratings category.

The Pantagraph covered the tournament and published an article featuring one of Metcalf’s newest Chesscat families.
