World cities will be the topic for the fall 2014 International Seminar Series. The speaker series occurs from noon to 1 p.m. every Wednesday, through November 19, in the First Floor West Lounge at the Bone Student Center. This series is free and open to the public.

On September 3, Liv Stone from the Department of Sociology and Anthropology at Illinois State University will give the talk “Mexico City: Three Superimposed Metropolises”.

On September 10, Yusuf Sarfati from the Department of Politics and Government at Illinois State University will give the talk “Reclaiming the Right to the City: The 2013 Gezi Park Protests in Istanbul.”

On September 17, Ross Kennedy from the Department of History at Illinois State University will give the talk “Total War: Bombing Europe’s Cities in World War II.”

On September 24, Elizabeth Aranda from the Department of Sociology at the University of South Florida will give the talk “Making a Life in Multiethnic Miami:  Immigration and the Rise of a Global City.”

On October 1, Catherine Cocks from the University of Iowa Press will give the talk “Urban Tourism and Citizens of the World.”

On October 15, RJ Rowley from the Department of Geography-Geology at Illinois State University will give the talk “Emerging World Cities: A Discussion About Dilemmas and Possibilities.”

On October 22, Peter Alegi from Michigan State University will give the talk “World Cup Cities for Whom? Lessons From South Africa and Brazil.”

On November 12, Alan Lessoff from the Department of History at Illinois State University will give the talk “National Capitals in the Age of Global Cities.”

On November 19, Barbara Ribbens from the College of Business at Illinois State University will give the talk “Global Business Cities: Expectations and Realities.”
