REPORTED OFFENSE:

On Tuesday, March 24, at approximately 12:15 AM, a student reported he was assaulted near the Vrooman Center on Mulberry Street, Normal approximately 40 minutes prior to calling the police. The victim stated four unknown male suspects struck him multiple times in the face and stole his cell phone before fleeing the scene. The victim reported minor injuries and refused medical treatment.

 

All four suspects were described as African-American. One suspect was 5’10”, heavy set, wearing black clothing. Another suspect was 6’1”, wearing a black jacket, black pants, and a black baseball hat with McDonald’s insignia.

This incident remains under investigation by the Illinois State University Police Department. Anyone with information should contact the ISU Police at (309) 438-8631. Students and others are strongly encouraged to immediately report ANY suspicious activity to the police.

-Stay alert to your surroundings and the people around you. Avoid wearing headphones, talking or texting on your cell phone, or anything which can distract you, including the excessive consumption of alcohol.

-Travel in groups and avoid going out alone at night.

-Plan the safest route to your destination; choose well lighted, busy pathways and streets.

-If someone is bothering or harassing you, tell the person in a loud voice to STAY AWAY.

-Carry your cell phone with you and be prepared to call 911 with a suspect description.

-If you are a victim or witness, call the police immediately and try to remember as many details as possible.
