The Dean of Students Office helps students find their way at Illinois State University by providing opportunities to get involved and assistance to students in times of need.

There are multiple programs and services within the Dean of Students Office that provide students with resources to truly gain the most from their experiences at Illinois State.

Involvement opportunities

Cultural and diversity programmingIncrease your awareness by attending a cultural event or joining a student-run diversity advocacy organization that provides additional connection and support for students.

Fraternities and sororitiesJoin a fraternity or sorority and learn the value of academic achievement, leadership development, and community service through the bonds of brotherhood and sisterhood.

Leadership and volunteer opportunitiesLearn about yourself, gain a greater understanding of others, and become actively engaged in your community.

Student clubs and organizations: Choose from more than 300 registered student organizations to become involved on campus.

Student programs and activities: Get involved with the Student Government Association or University Program Board, both student-run organizations advised by the Dean of Students Office. Attend events like Up Late at State or Welcome Week/Day, Illinois State’s orientation program for new students.

Support services

Conflict resolution: Resolve conflict with fellow students, faculty, or staff through mediation services.

Graduation Services: Identify the steps you need to participate in commencement ceremonies.

Nontraditional Student Services: Find support with services specifically designed for students over the age of 25, those with military obligations, parental responsibilities, or with full-time employment.

Off-Campus Services: Get assistance in your apartment search, have your lease reviewed, or receive other helpful advice about off-campus living.

Students’ Attorney: Get advice and guidance about your legal concerns from our licensed attorney.

Transfer Student Services: Find support to help you connect to campus as you transition from another institution.

In addition to these support services, students can also meet with the Dean on Duty. Each weekday from 8 a.m.–4:30 p.m., one of the associate deans is available to any student to discuss concerns or any questions about your time at Illinois State. Whether it is an academic or medical issue, personal concern, or question about university policies, the Dean on Duty can provide assistance and guidance.

The Dean of Students Office also offers absence notification in the event that you need to miss class for an extended period of time.
