Resume critiques or mock interviews through the Career Center are excellent training opportunities and valuable experiences. They allow students to identify their skills before beginning a job search and provide helpful feedback from hiring experts.

The Career Center is hosting resume critiques and mock interviews this semester to provide students with the opportunity to prepare for the upcoming career fairs. Save the dates for: September 12, September 15 and 16, October 10, and October 14 and 15. All sessions will be held in the Career Center in 185 Student Services Building. Click on the dates for more details.

Faculty and staff seeking to use the Career Center for critiques and interviews for class sessions should contact the Career Center prior to assigning them to students or placing them into course syllabi. In this way, the Career Center can customize sessions to create the maximum experience for students based upon their needs. The Career Center can also coordinate a customized “Mock Interview Day” or “Resume Critique Day” in which employers from a specific major or field can come to campus to give students feedback related directly to a particular industry. Just contact the assigned career advisor for your college.

“The Career Center is a centralized resource for Illinois State students which can connect them to a variety of employers in search of well-prepared candidates,” Career Center Director Stephen Cantine said. “When faculty and staff contact us to help them coordinate resume critiques and mock interviews early, even before the semester starts, we are able to work collectively with them and our employer contacts to provide the most valuable experience to the students as possible.”

Students can also have their resumes critiqued anytime during the Career Center’s walk-in hours. If faculty or staff would like to have students participate in critiques during walk-in hours as part of a class assignment, faculty or staff should contact the Career Center in advance to ensure plenty of staff are on hand to adequately serve the students.
