On July 1, in compliance with the State of Illinois’ Smoke-Free Campus Act and other applicable state laws, Illinois State University will become smoke- and tobacco-free. This change will prohibit smoking and the use of tobacco on campus property. Campus property as defined by the Smoke-Free Campus Act includes buildings, grounds, parking lots, and vehicles that are owned or operated by state-supported institutions of higher education. The establishment of this smoke- and tobacco-free environment provides a cleaner, healthier environment to live, learn, teach, work, and play.

Illinois State University joins more than 700 colleges and universities  nation-wide that have smoke- and/or tobacco-free policies creating environments that support the entire community’s wellbeing. Please note that until July 1, the current university Smoke and Tobacco Use Policy is still in effect.  The policy website will be updated with the new policy adapted to reflect changes in Illinois State law as well as updated maps outlining areas that are smoke- and tobacco-free on July 1.
