Around 6,100 students will move into Illinois State University’s residence halls and apartments this month. Students have been assigned move-in dates and times depending on their housing assignment.

Move-In for residents of Cardinal Court, Fell Avenue, and School Street apartments began Monday, August 3.

East Campus (Manchester and Hewett) returning students will start moving in Monday, August 10, and Tuesday, August 11. Approximately 60 percent of residents—including students in Watterson, Wright, Wilkins, and Haynie—will move in Wednesday, August 12, and Thursday, August 13. The remainder of returning students will schedule move-in appointments between Friday, August 14, and Sunday, August 16.

“This year we launched a new process to deliver loft kits to rooms before our students arrive. All students were able to select if they wished to have a loft kit during room selection periods,” said Stacey Mwilambwe, director of University Housing. “We believe this will help open up elevators and reduce traffic within the residence halls.”

This summer, University Housing unveiled its Move-In 2015 Guide, which is available for free on the new official Illinois State University App. It provides information on getting to campus and what to expect after a student moves in. Members of the community can also download the app to keep up-to-date with information regarding move-in, such as road closures.

Temporary traffic patterns and some street closures will be in effect August 10 to 14. North Street will be one-way east from School Street to Fell Avenue; Fell Avenue will be one-way south from Mulberry Street to College Avenue (only move-in traffic allowed); Fell Avenue will be closed between College Avenue and North Street; Fell Avenue will be closed for all northbound traffic.

This year more than 350 students and staff will serve as move-in volunteers. The volunteer ranks will include Association of Residence Halls members and 130 student athletes and athletic staff. University Housing is still taking employee volunteers. Volunteers can give any amount of time during the move-in timeframe. Registration deadline is August 7.
